SUPERMAN - DIRECTOR CUTS
Updated: Sep 29, 2018
Like most people who nitpick movies I used to have an issue with the ending of Richard Donner's Superman. Superman finding Lois Lane dead in her car due to Lex Luthor's experiments, flies in the sky enraged and proceeds to fly around the Earth over and over again at a rapid pace (seemingly) spinning the world backwards... and time with it(?). I don't have an issue with it regardless, it's a bit rich to pick on this one unrealistic element of your 'flying man who wears underwear on the outside' picture.
Regardless, it doesn't make sense in the real world. So in my darkly comic way, I thought I could surely make it so when he comes back down Lois is exactly as he left her. A solemn moment follows, which precedes the best moment where the solemnity is interrupted by the triumphant fanfare-esque theme.
I will give many props to how tight the editing is in Superman though, this whole sequence (that I've cut down to 1:34)goes for over 5 minutes (easily) and the action is perfectly tied to sounds, cuts and music. This was a bit of a challenge to get right.
Director Cuts is a series we do whenever we're not too busy with other video work. It's a fun exercise in trying to take pre-existing footage and edit it into something somewhat coherent.
