Charles-Emile Reynaud was an early pioneer of animation in the pre-celluloid days.

His invention the praxinoscope delighted audience in the Paris Theatre-Optique. Reynaud's great struggle for lasting success has been largely forgotten due to the chaotic and inventive period of film that immediately followed his initial success. It is Michael Rostig's hope that with this film he will be brought back into the public's eye as an important pioneering figure in the field of animation.
